Insulation Removal
Professional removal of existing loft insulation — fibreglass, mineral wool, blown-in granulate, or open-cell spray foam.
Insulation removal is priced per square metre — £10/m² for fibreglass, rockwool or mineral wool, and £15/m² for vermiculite, granulated or cellulose insulation. See our full price list.
When Is Insulation Removal Necessary?
Existing insulation may need removing when it is damaged, damp, contaminated by pests, or no longer performing effectively. In some cases, the wrong type of insulation has been installed, or it has degraded to the point where topping up is not a viable option. Removal creates a clean starting point for correctly specified new insulation.
Removal is conducted with minimal disruption to your home. We use dust sheets where needed, keep the work area contained, and remove all waste from the property on completion.
Standard Insulation Removal
Removal of existing fibreglass or mineral wool insulation. Recommended when old insulation is damaged, contaminated, or needs replacing with a higher-performing solution.
Granulated / Blown-In Insulation Removal
Loose-fill and blown-in insulation requires specialist removal. Often found in older properties where it has settled, compacted, or become ineffective over time.
Open-Cell Spray Foam Removal
Spray foam can cause issues with mortgage surveys and roof ventilation. Careful removal restores the loft to a mortgageable condition and allows proper insulation to be installed.
For a detailed explanation of spray foam issues and removal methodology, see our dedicated spray foam removal page.
What Happens If Old Insulation Is Left In Place?
Leaving damaged or contaminated insulation in place can lead to continued heat loss, moisture problems, and reduced effectiveness of any new insulation placed on top of it. In some cases, it can also mask underlying timber or ventilation issues. Based on the information you provide and our satellite assessment, we can usually determine whether removal is likely to be needed.
Our Removal Process
All insulation is removed carefully, bagged, and disposed of responsibly. The loft is left clean and ready for new insulation to be installed. If anything unexpected is found on the day — such as damp timbers or ventilation issues — these are addressed as part of the work at no extra cost. All surfaces are protected during work and all waste is removed from the property.
Removal Pricing
Removal is priced per square metre of loft floor. Disposal of the old insulation is included in the rate.
