Loft Boarding
Raised loft boarding installed above insulation — providing usable storage without compromising thermal performance.
Raised loft boarding is priced at £55 per square metre of loft floor. See our full price list.
Why Raised Boarding Matters
Loft boards placed directly on joists compress the insulation beneath them, significantly reducing its thermal effectiveness. Raised boarding uses legs or battens to elevate the boards above the insulation layer, creating usable storage space while preserving the full depth of insulation underneath.
Storage Suitability
Loft boarding is intended for light household storage — seasonal items, suitcases, boxes, and similar belongings. It is not designed for heavy items, frequent access, or habitable use.
New Raised Loft Boarding
Loft boards installed on raised legs above the insulation layer, giving you usable storage space without compressing the insulation beneath.
Raising Existing Boarding
If your loft is already boarded but the insulation underneath is crushed or insufficient, the boarding can be raised to allow full-depth insulation beneath.
Common Problems With Existing Boarding
Many lofts have been boarded directly onto joists with little or no insulation beneath, or with insulation compressed to a fraction of its intended depth. In these cases, the boarding itself becomes a thermal liability. Raising the boards and installing full-depth insulation underneath addresses both the structural and thermal requirements in one process.
Boarding Pricing
Raised loft boarding is £55 per square metre, including the raised timber framework and loft panels. The price covers everything needed for the installation.
