You do not need technical knowledge to assess an installer — you need the right questions. Vague answers to any of these are worth taking seriously.

What good answers sound like
Specific figures, not adjectives. A competent installer will name depths, areas, materials and what is included, and will happily explain why they are recommending one approach over another — including when work is not necessary.
How we answer them
You deal directly with the installer, not a call centre. Rates are published, quotes are fixed and written, ventilation and hatch work are included as standard, and every completed job gets a certificate recording materials and depths.

Ask for the installed depth in millimetres, the loft area in square metres, whether removal and disposal are included, and how ventilation will be maintained. Specific answers are the signal to look for.
